Multi-Platform system

Multi-Platform system

I made this before I got into making quality vacuum formed cases. Not bad looking but ugly in comparsion to what I can make now! System is too thick also as I didn’t integrate the batteries as I would now. Concept was to make a base unit that could play console systems with a large motherboard. This meant the base system had to be large enough to cover boards from the likes of the Jaguar, MegaDrive 2, SNES and others. I completed an N64 system for it and all but the final stages of a SNES, however I then learnt how to trim boards down, cuts parts off and re-wire them, to end up with a smaller board. I therefore abandoned the project, as making smaller systems is far nicer and more beneficial.

This is still, I believe, the only interchangeable console system made, so is unique.

This project was the learning curve for me to have the skills needed for the Alpha Omega project as it taught me a lot of the principles regards interference on lines and prevention, and using common connections as interface ports.

  1. Are you going to refit the case?

  2. rather a bit large dont you think? can it be smaller?

  3. Cool but it actually isnt the first. The laseractive laserdisk player actually had a port on it where you could plug in a genesis thing into the port. They also made a pc engine box for it too.

    • Interesting, I like hearing about obscure systems, got a link?

What I was referring to at the time was the system I made was able to utilise the majority of games consoles as it used generic controls and video interfaces that were standard between systems. I stopped development of the project as I could make it look so far better and more integrated than I did. That project will be faded into obscurity when I make a considerably better, and integrated system, which I will be starting in a few weeks time…

  4. Thanks very much. I intend over time to make this site the main resource on the internet for making portables, evenutually – will take a long time; while people continue to visit my site as they do, I will continue to remain motivated!

  5. CAN YOU SEND ME A LCD FOR DREAMCAST ,GAMECUBE AND PS1 AND I WILL PAY YOU 49 DOLLARS BECAUSE THEY DONT SELL THOSE WHERE I LIVE.
